What is boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography is a session with an authentic and intimate focus on you. The purpose is to capture and accentuate your beauty through daring yet tasteful photos.

Why book a session?

Some of the top reasons may be:

  • To discover and celebrate an empowered version of yourself
  • To get the benefit of lasting confidence
  • To give the unique gift to your significant other or yourself

I go into more detail on the reasons on this post.

When should you book?

Boudoir sessions usually take place before your wedding, for an anniversary, a milestone birthday, Valentine’s Day, etc. but really you do not need a special date to book a session. There is no right or wrong time on when to celebrate you and your body!

Where should you book?

In order to find the perfect spot for your boudoir session you will have to do some of your own research depending on where you live.

Social media will be your best friend for this as you will be able to look through photographer’s past work, reviews, upcoming specials, etc.

There are all sorts of boudoir styles such as bridal only, classic, pin up, maternity, and many many more so you will want to find a photographer that fits the style you’re going for.

For my session I decided to book with Yuli Vargas Creations Photography since I am very familiar with her and her studio. If you are looking into working with a new photographer, do not hesitate to reach out and send them a message or give them a call with your questions.

What is the cost?

The cost of your session will depend on factors like location, session duration, number of digital and/or print photos, etc.

If you are looking to book with Yuli here is her contact form so you can see her current offers.

What do you need before your session?

Once you have booked your session, the real fun starts and you can start getting ready for your special day!

First things first, decide on the look you are going for and gather your lingerie. Here are a few options to get you started just click the photo to shop:

Savage x Fenty
Frederick's of Hollywood
Etsy
Shein

Beauty Kit

Once you have your outfits picked out, you can start gathering the items for your beauty kit. You will want to include makeup in case you need a retouch, hair tool, jewelry and any other items you think you may need during your shoot.

Brainstorm poses

Of course your photographer will help during the session, but it is very helpful if you have some poses already in mind. You can look online for inspiration and share it with your photographer either before your session or the day of.

Final Thoughts

Remember to relax and enjoy your session. Being prepared helps, but letting loose and relaxing will definitely give you the best results and it will show in your photos.

Last but not least, don’t be shy, reach out! Chat with your girlfriends. Chances are they too want to book a session or they’ve already done one before and have valuable advice to share.

After my session with Yuli, a couple friends booked their own sessions with her and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Make sure to check back as we will be sharing more about their full experience in a future blog post. In the meantime, take a peek at my photos I received and absolutely loved!! The renewed appreciation of my body and the confidence boost a boudoir session gives is unreal!
