Being a 32C may not seem small to some, but to me it was a huge deal as a teen. You’d think I’d be happier when my double Ds came in a couple years later in college, but I wasn’t!
A good friend of mine and I were talking about this just the other day. I mentioned how terrified I would be of ever going under the knife, but she expressed how she put all her fears aside and how her plastic surgery had made a huge impact on her self confidence. It got me thinking how amazing it was that a surgery could go above and beyond for a person and help boost their self-love.
I’m not quite sure why plastic surgery is still taboo, when in reality it could help a lot with your self-care, but I’m glad I had that conversation with Lisa because I was able to ask her a lot more questions, and she was even sweet enough to let me share her story with you! Here is what she had to share.
What does self-care mean to you?
Self care to me means my own well-being and happiness. Happiness by making improvements on myself if I need or just want to.
What did you have done?
Breast Augmentation and Mastopexy
Why did you get surgery?
I decided to get the surgery because after breastfeeding three kids, I became self conscious of my breast. The fullness wasn’t there any more.
What was recovery like?
I’m not going to lie, the recovery was painful and took time. I didn’t start feeling better until about the 8th week after surgery. There is alot of things I couldn’t do on my own.
How did you feel afterwards physically?
After the procedure I was in PAIN for a couple of days. I even had to take prescribed Tramadol every 4 hrs.
How did you feel afterward emotionally?
After the procedure I felt super excited!! I knew I was going to feel confident about my body once I fully recovered .
What would you do differently if you had a chance?
Nothing! I’m thankful I had all the information I needed to make the best choices.
What do you like best about your procedure?
What I like most about the procedure is the fullness and firmness of my breast not mention I can go braless!!
What do you like least?
What I liked least about the procedure was the painful massage although they were necessary to prevent blood clots I still disliked them.
What was your family support like before and after the procedures?
My husband was the BEST during this process. Although, He NEVER said I needed anything done to modify my body, he supported every decision I made financially and emotionally. My daughters made it so much easier to recover because they took over the house chores.
What advice do you have for other women considering surgery?
Research your doctor and ask lots questions! Ultimately this will give you the assurance you need to decide if this procedure is right for you.
Where did you go for your surgery?
Dr. Wilberto Cortes better known as Dr. Hourglass.
What was the cost?
It will vary from surgeon to surgeon. I had two procedures done. A Breast Augmentation and a Mastopexy (a breast lift) the total procedure was $8,900 for me.
Do you have plans for future surgeries?
Hmmm…. There could be a possibility. There is always room for improvement.
Although it made me immensely happy for my friend, for now, I’m still too much of a chicken to go through with anything myself. I just can’t get past the pain part, mostly because I’ve always had a super low pain tolerance!
There will always be people arguing for and against surgery, but I strongly believe only you are in charge of your happiness and making your own decisions! If that happiness includes plastic surgery, then make sure you do the appropriate research, set your goals, and go for it!
